I try to picture these shells in a natural setting common to their area. This Scotch Bonnet is pictured on a North Carolina beach with shells commonly found in the area including the Sand Dollar ( however, perhaps the Sand Dollar is not a shell ). The bird is one of my favorites, a Ruddy Turnstone. In summer plumage, the Ruddy Turnstone has a fascinating pattern of white, black and beautiful russet color. It is named the Turnstone because it is always turning over stones and shells to find a morsel of food.
