The
Residents
Alkyd
"The Residents" is an early
November scene from the Tidewater area of eastern Maryland. This scene
is typical of the area near Oxford, St. Michaels and Easton, Maryland.
During this time, thousands of Canada geese migrate to the area to settle
in the fields and on the water. The Canada geese can often be observed
close to populated areas they judge safe while others are hunted from blinds
less than a mile distant. The classic oyster tonging boats can be seen
working the shores and inlets of the tidewater. The stately homes, the
oystermen and the Canada geese are equally "The Residents" of the Eastern
Shore.
For several years I was
involved in paintings for the Easton Waterfowl Festival in Easton, Maryland.
This painting was done for their cover competition and lost. The next year
I won the cover competion. Many people have told me they recognize this
home near Oxford, Maryland ..... it never existed and was from my imagination.
